Keyword Gap is many customers’ favorite tool in Dragon Metrics for quickly comparing how sites match up against their competition. Since we launched the report a couple of years ago, the feedback we’ve heard has come in loud and clear: a) Customers love Keyword Gap and b) They want more.
We’ve listened, and today’s completely new Keyword Gap takes everything our customers love about the current report and goes beyond it in every way imaginable. Let’s take a look!
First up, we’ve greatly increased the number of sites you can compare in a single report. Instead of just 2 as were previously available, you can now compare up to 6 sites at once.
If you’re not sure who your competitors are, we’ve made it even easier to run a Keyword Gap against sites that Dragon Metrics uncovers in the Organic Competitors report. Just check the box next to each site you want to compare, click Compare sites, and away we go!
Another much-requested feature was to compare more than just root domains. You can now compare any domain, subdomain, subfolder, or URL!
At the top of the Keyword Gap report is a head-to-head comparison of top level metrics such as Traffic Index (estimated organic traffic), and the number of keywords ranking in the top 100, top 10, and the #1 spot. Just click the button above the chart to switch the selected metric.
Below the chart we can see the ranking keywords for each site. In addition to Keyword Gap and Keywords in Common, we’ve added 3 more intersection types for even more flexible ways of comparing each site.
The first one is Keywords in Common, and should be familiar to Dragon Metrics customers. This intersection type shows keywords where all selected sites are ranking in the top 100 organic positions on Google.
The Keyword Gap intersection is still here as well, showing keywords that all other sites have ranking for, but your site does not.
When we say “your site”, it doesn’t actually have to be a site that you own or operate. When adding sites to compare, one site is designated as (my site) by clicking the check next to it. You can easily experiment by changing (my site) to see how the data changes.
Keyword Opportunities is similar to Keyword Gap, but here we show keywords where 1 or more sites rank in the top 100 positions but your site does not.
Unique Keywords is the opposite of Keyword Gap in a way, showing keywords that your site ranks in the top 100 results, but none of the others sites do.
All Keywords shows keywords where 1 or more of the selected sites have rankings in the top 100 positions.
Each table cell shows the position of the highest ranking URL of each site. The cell shaded green is the best ranking of the selected sites. Hover on a ranking position to see the ranking URL, where you can easily view all of the ranking keywords or backlinks for this URL, or visit the page directly.
Click on the keyword to analyze it in Keyword Research for even more information such as a complete SERP analysis, MSV trend, keyword difficulty, related terms, and more.
Data can be filtered by ranking position, keyword, monthly search volume, and more. Multiple filters can be used for complicated queries.
My personal favorite filter is Category, which let’s you narrow results by choosing from one of over 3,000 Google Ads categories.
These categories can be either very broad or incredibly specific, which is a fantastic way to take a look at a specific part of a large site without having to filter by keyword or URL, which may not be nearly flexible enough.
Like all research tools in Dragon Metrics, you can add keywords you like to a list or directly to a campaign by checking the box next to each one and clicking Add keywords.
We’re really excited about the new updates to the Keyword Gap report, and we think you’ll love it too. We want to say thank you to of our customers for their feedback in helping make the app even better. We believe that Dragon Metrics’ success is due in part to listening to our customers, so please keep your feedback coming!
