Faster Ranking Updates

Ranking data updates in as little as 1 hour

At Dragon Metrics, we understand the need to for data at your fingertips. When putting together a quick pitch, turning around a report with a tight deadline, or reacting quickly to a site or algorithm update, you can’t afford to wait around for hours or days for your data.

Of course, it’s nice to have instant access to rankings for hundreds of millions of keywords in 70 countries with Research, but sometimes you need to up-to-date and in-depth data for a specific set of keywords and sites.

Before: The standard cadence

Up until now, ranking data worked on a single update schedule. Accounts with daily ranking updates saw new data become visible every day at midnight (UTC+8), while accounts with weekly ranking updates were able to see new data at midnight only on their specified day of the week (e.g. every Thursday). This meant if you added new keywords at 1am on Thursday, you could wait up to 23 hours (daily updates) or 6 days and 23 hours (weekly updates) to see your new data. Clearly this was not ideal.

Now: Ranking updates on your terms

While we knew there would be sizable technical hurdles in making this happen, we wanted to deliver this data much faster to our customers. We’ve completely overhauled our system for maximum speed and efficiency, and it’s finally paid off.

Now ranking data for new keywords and campaigns is typically available within 1-4 hours of when they were added. The exact completion time will depend on a number of factors and could still take up to 24 hours in some cases. But most new data should be visible within 4 hours, and often within 1 hour. After the initial data collection, subsequent updates will be done according to the normal daily or weekly schedule.

We silently rolled out this new feature a few months ago, so it’s likely you’ve already noticed this change. For everyone else, we figure it’s time to go public with announcement. Now is the perfect time to upload that keyword list you need for the end-of-day meeting. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
